October 2020 Update

Saturday 3rd October 2020

Although there has been a lack of updates on the website, the Nailsea and District Model Railway Club still continue to hold their virtual meetings online using Zoom as well as making use of a members only Facebook group. Shown below are a small number of photos of projects that some of our members have been working on.

Doug has reconfigured his stay at home layout, Downsbay and Rye (Rother Road), to allow his modelling desk to be moved under a window giving more natural light and space for modelling. This has involved removing the entire branchline section that Rye (Rother Road) was built on, however this section of the layout has been kept and converted into a stand alone portable layout depicting a compact Kentish terminus.

A new loco shed has been built and installed on Downsbay based on a real one at Tunbridge Wells West during the 1960s. The model was constructed from scratch using Wills material packs of plasticard mouldings and just requires some ground details, etc to finish it off. There has also been a new heavy hoist crane installed at the rear of the loco shed and the existing coaling stage re-sited. The photos below show how Downsbay currently looks after the recent changes.

The next photo shows a small part of the detailing work that has been going on with the new version of Rye (Rother Road). We look forward to seeing more progress on the updates to this layout in the future.

Progress has also continued on Graham’s stay at home layout, Bruewithy Junction, which has had all the track laid and just needs the wiring underneath to be completed. The remaining wiring still to complete mostly consists of installing point motors, a total of 31 of which are required for this layout. The images below show the underside of one of the boards and part of the track plan of the layout.

A number of other models in various scales that have been built since the last website update are shown in the next sequence of photos below. These include a couple of buildings for an N gauge American layout, a OO gauge wagon shop, a OO gauge model of Crewkerne signal box and some O gauge concrete permanent way and tool sheds.

Finally for this update, Dave has shared a number of recent photos of his layout, Great Swilling, which is continually being detailed and improved ready for when model railway exhibitions can be restarted.
