November 2015 Update
Sunday 8th November 2015
The last month has seen the continuation of projects by many of our members, both for club layouts and members’ personal layouts. Since the previous update we have had two talk evenings, the first of which was an interesting talk led by club chairman David Burnett about the planning, construction and the reasoning for decisions made as he has worked on his layout, ‘Great Swilling’. There will be more recent photos of the work done to his layout in another update soon.
The second talk evening, held last week, was a practical demonstration of scenic techniques from visiting published modeller, Gordon Gravett. The image below shows the various materials and tools on the table during the demonstration on the left and a finished example diorama with one in progress made during the evening on the right.
Many thanks go to Gordon for his talk and demonstration which was full of useful tips and advice which we can apply to our own layouts.
Modelling evenings in October were once again productive with work continuing on the various club layouts including track laying, wiring and planning. A few members have also been working on constructing items of rolling stock and scenic structures from kits and enjoyed discussing various aspects of railways, both model and real.
Finally, as a reminder of the variety of interests the members of the Nailsea and District Model Railway Club have, our most recent running evening saw a large variety of trains from different countries and eras running on the ‘Roundy Round’ test track. The photo below shows from top to bottom;
An N Gauge Southern Railway N Class hauling a passenger train,
A kit built HO scale Victorian Railways J Class 2-8-0 from Australia with a couple of hopper wagons,
A HO scale Burlington Northern (BNSF) American self propelled crane,
A OO gauge Class 143 Pacer in First Great Western livery,
And a HO scale post-war German Prussian Class 56 with a short passenger train.
