Stanley Yard – A Model Railway in a Toolbox
Inspired by a number of micro layouts built by other people, this N gauge shunting layout is constructed inside the top of a Stanley 24″ Series 2000 toolbox instead of the usual box file. This allows storage space beneath the layout for the controller, scenery or rolling stock when not in use. The track layout is based on a reduced version of an Inglenook Sidings shunting puzzle, with the aim of making up a train of three wagons in the longer siding, selected at random from the five wagons on the layout.
The total size of the toolbox fits within a space of 2 ft long by 1 ft deep, with just a little additional space behind required for the controller and to one side for additional stock. The selection of wagons for the shunting puzzle is made using a number of cards that can be shuffled and selected at random.
