August 2018 Update

Monday 13th August 2018

Since the last update, we have had two talk evenings, plenty of activity around the Club test tracks and members working on their own projects.

The first of the talks was from a Club member who once worked for British Rail, and he told us all about the footplate duties of the crew on a steam locomotive as well as a few of his experiences whilst working for British Rail. The second talk was a basic history of signalling on the railways with a bit about the different types of signal that existed and where they would be used. The talks were both very informative and gave a few ideas for improving the realistic operation of our own model railways.

Amongst the various projects being worked on by Nailsea and District Model Railway Club members during the modelling evenings is a project started by our Club Chairman a number of years ago. This has now been passed on to a couple of other members to finish off to help with passing modelling skills on to those without out as much experience. The model started life as a plastic kit of a fictional steam powered tank from the Warhammer range produced by Games Workshop and is being converted to run on O gauge track. Initial progress is pictured below.

With all the nice weather we have had, one of the Club meetings was spent visiting the garden railway of another of our members who generously invited us all round to his house for the evening. A large group of us gathered for a chat and to watch the trains go round, with a massive thanks to Mike and his wife for allowing us all round and providing some drinks and snacks. We all had an enjoyable time and a few pictures of the garden railway are shown below.
