Norton Vale

Designed By Doug Richards Created by Club members, updated over the last 10 years
4mm scale
Conceived as a regular club evening project for 4mm modellers to learn and
practice their skills, with the intention of producing a working layout.
Sadly, one of our members Alan Webber died in 2012, in his memory the layout
was completed for exhibition at local shows.
Layout Description:
Situated somewhere in Oxfordshire near to Banbury on a truncated cross
country route in the early sixties. This allows both steam and early diesel
operation from all regions giving considerable scope for varied rolling stock
operations, this suits our members allowing them to draw from their own
collections. The main station ‘Norton Vale’ is situated on the truncated route
with a small branch to ‘Lower Norton’ including a small dairy.
Based upon an idea from Cyril Freezer’s PECO publication ’60 plans for Small
Layouts’ from which Plan 47 was chosen with a few changes to suit our needs.
All structures use a mixture of modified standard kits and scratch building.
The track is PECO code 75, points operated by SEEP solenoids with working
DAPOL signals.
Control is DCC using either Digitrax, Gaugemaster or NCE Powercab.
