Open Day December 7th 2014

Another successful Open Day Show has been and gone. Huge thanks go to all those who’ve supported the event especially:

  • The Open Day Show team for all their hard work in making the show a success
  • The Barn, Clevedon for the venue
  • Our show sponsor – Richards Railways of Yatton
  • The Catering team
  • All our club members who brought their layouts and rolling stock to display
  • All the club members who turned out to man the doors, shift tables & chairs and help out where needed
  • All you members of the public who paid to come to the show – our very special thanks to you!

Despite only being a one day event and the weather not being very good while unloading the various layouts and displays from vehicles in the morning, we had a great time. The weather cleared up and set-up was completed on time for the first visitors at 10am. Although only a small show in a relatively small hall, there was plenty of space to move around and see everything. There was a steady flow of visitors of all ages for the entire day with many enjoying seeing the layouts and talking to the club members. Hopefully we will have inspired some more modellers with ideas for their own model railway and we’ll be happy to welcome any who might like to join the Nailsea and District Model Railway Club.

On entering the show, having passed the display panels showing photos of the Club’s activities, David Burnett’s EM Scale layout, ‘Great Swilling’, took the place of the modelling demonstration. This was a static display this year and David cheerfully discussed the models he had created and how you could go about doing the same. Doug Richards’ ‘Fourtee Colliery’ 3mm Scale layout was opposite and drew plenty of interest to those first entering the show.
The 12 feet length of ‘Dunestone’ allowing long N Gauge trains contrasted with the short trains appearing on the two OO Gauge micro layouts. One of these was sold during the day, so apologies to anyone who missed seeing that one, however there is a photo in the gallery below.
Also on display in OO Gauge was ‘Stonebridge Lane’, adding DCC Sound from the diesels operating on the layout to the mix along with the American Steam sounds from the DCC Sound HO Scale engines on ‘New Mexico Railroad Museum’. ‘Gordano Bridge’ in N Gauge and ‘Rowthorne’ in OO Gauge showed the concept of continuous run layouts as opposed to the end to end operation of the aforementioned layouts.
Finally, ‘Paley Green’ demonstrated another kind of rail transport other than trains in the form of G Scale Trams. There was even a narrow gauge train built from Lego Bricks on show in a display case amongst some N Gauge and HO Scale models against one wall.
Here are some photos taken during the day:
