Five Weeks Until Upcoming Open Day 2016

Saturday 29th October 2016

With just five weeks left until this year’s Nailsea and District Model Railway Club Open Day to be held in Yatton, North Somerset, this update brings a little information about one of the layouts that will be attending.

The Morella Light Railway is a OO-9 scale narrow gauge quarry railway, originally built by the late H.R. Norman of Wimbledon Model Railway Club on an old wicker edged tea tray.

Morella Light Railway

Situated somewhere in Southern England, the line started life in the 1880s as a means of transporting stone from Birds Hill Quarry to a couple of nearby towns. Unfortunately a brickworks started up not far away and their building material proved to be a lot cheaper. Althuogh the line managed to survive on the reduced stone traffic for a few years, a passenger market started to develop which was not completely killed by the motor car. Nowadays the tourist attraction of a narrow guage railway has proved to be its salvation while there is still a little stone traffic.
